Gretchen Weeks is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and a pediatric nurse practitioner. Gretchen has over seven years of experience in the area of pediatric nursing. While working as a pediatric nurse practitioner in primary care, Gretchen became aware of the increasing amount of mental illness affecting children and teenagers. She also realized that many of the children and teenagers that she treated had adult family members who also suffered from psychiatric conditions. Due to this, Gretchen became passionate about caring for those with mental illness and wanted to care for the entire family unit. Therefore, she followed her passion to treat those with mental illness by returning to school for her post-master’s psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certificate which allows her to treat psychiatric conditions across the age spectrum. She is delighted to join Musick Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Associates to provide treatment for a wide array of psychiatric conditions throughout the lifespan with a special interest in children, teenagers, and young adults dealing with mental illness.
Gretchen has extensive academic credentials including a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Augusta University, a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the Child Health Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Program at Georgia State University, and a post-master’s Certificate from the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of New Hampshire. Gretchen is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Gretchen also completes yearly continuing education courses beyond the required amount.
In addition to her education and experience, Gretchen is the recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, and she published a case study on pediatric bipolar order in the Journal of Pediatric Health Care in 2018.
Gretchen is married, and in her free time, her and her husband enjoy world traveling, going to operas and musicals together, staying active/hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
She is looking forward to continuing to pursue her passion as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Musick Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Associates.
